What should I get my mom for Christmas?

Start with how she spends a free Saturday, then give her more of it or make it easier. A gardener gets better tools for the beds she already tends. A reader gets a light, a book or a quiet hour to read it. And a mom who never sits down gets the hour itself: a booked massage, a house cleaning in January or a night out with you.

Then check the details she won't tell you. Look at her shoe size in the closet, the scent of the candle she keeps buying and the tea in her cupboard. Ask a sibling or her best friend what she mentioned in passing this fall.

Gift cards are a fine answer too. In the National Retail Federation's 2025 holiday survey, 50% of adults said they wanted one, the top answer. Make it for a store or restaurant she already goes to.

A mom in a cream robe smiles in an armchair as she opens a red gift box full of tissue paper, with her daughter in a red dress and her son in a blue sweater beside her, a decorated tree with candles, a steaming polka-dot mug and snow at the window

What are good Christmas gifts for mom under $25?

Of the 36 ideas on this page, 14 cost under $25 at the US stores we checked in October 2026. The best of them are small upgrades to things she uses every day: hand cream for winter hands, slippers with a real sole, a clip-on light for reading in bed, a satin pillowcase or a tea sampler.

Kids on a small allowance can still give something she keeps. A salt-dough ornament pressed with their hands, a blank recipe book with the first recipe written in, or a window bird feeder they fill each week all cost little and last long after the wrapping is gone.

To stretch a small budget, pair two cheap things around one theme, like seeds with garden gloves or a puzzle with a soy candle. Show only the ideas under $25, or browse more cheap Christmas gifts and stocking stuffers.

What do moms actually want for Christmas?

The National Retail Federation asked 8,247 US adults, moms among them, from October 1 to 7, 2025, which gifts they would like to receive. Gift cards came first at 50%, then clothing or accessories at 46%, books and other media at 27%, personal care or beauty at 23% and electronics at 22%.

The survey covers all adults, so treat the numbers as a hint for Mom: most people like a gift they get to choose, something to wear and something that helps them slow down.

For your own mom, the answer is closer to home. Notice what she buys for herself, what she used up this year and what she keeps saying she will get around to. Then give her that, a little nicer than she would buy it. Not sure? Ask her, or let Santa ask for you.

How do you find out what Mom wants without spoiling the surprise?

Listen first. From October on, keep a note on your phone of everything she mentions: a book a friend loved, a pan that keeps sticking, a place she wants to see. Ask a sibling or her best friend what she has said to them, or ask Mom to write a Christmas wish list of her own.

Or let Santa ask. With Santa's interview, you send Mom a link and she has a short video call with Santa, an AI video character. He chats with her about her year, what she has loved lately, what she would rather not get and her wishes. He tells her at the start that he passes her wishes on to you, and she ticks a box to say she knows. The surprise is which wish you pick.

Afterwards you see a short summary, her likes and dislikes, and each wish with store prices. Your minutes pay, at $1 a minute, and a call only uses the time she talks.

  1. Make a linkAdd minutes to your account, then make an interview link and send it to Mom.
  2. Mom talks with SantaOn her phone or computer, no app. Santa tells her up front that her wishes go to you.
  3. You read her wishesA short summary, her likes and dislikes, and each wish with store prices.

What are good last-minute Christmas gifts for mom?

On December 23, pick a gift that needs no shipping. An e-gift card to a store or restaurant she loves goes by email. Under federal rules in place since August 22, 2010, the money on a gift card can't expire for at least five years from the day it was bought or last loaded.

Experiences need no wrapping either. Book a massage, a cooking class or two concert tickets, print the confirmation and fold it into a card. For something she can unwrap, order online and pick it up at a store near you the same day, where the store offers it.

Or give her time with Santa. With gift minutes, you buy minutes at $1 a minute, write a short note and get a gift card with a code. Print it, save it as a picture or send her the link. She opens it on the redeem page, signs in with her email, and the minutes go into her account. They don't expire.

How can you pay less for the gift Mom wants?

Set the budget before you shop, then pick from the band that fits. The filter above sorts every idea into under $25, $25 to $75 and $75 and up, and siblings can split one bigger gift instead of buying three small ones.

Check the same item at three stores before you buy, and compare the total with shipping and tax, not the sticker price. Free shipping at one store can beat a lower price at another.

Santa's wish list does that comparison for you. After a live video call with Santa, each wish comes back priced across stores, lowest first, with links. Keep the receipt too: Target, for one, takes price-match requests up to 14 days after purchase, and its policy page says which prices count.

Last, share one shortlist with everyone buying for Mom, so nobody buys the same robe twice.

Christmas gifts for mom: questions

What do you get a mom who says she wants nothing?

Take her at her word about things and give time instead: a booked massage, a house cleaning or a day out with you. For more, see our gift ideas for someone who has everything.

What can kids give Mom for Christmas?

Something they made or chose themselves: a salt-dough handprint ornament, a recipe book with a drawing on the first page, or breakfast in bed on Christmas morning. A grown-up can help them pick from the ideas under $25.

What should a daughter or son get Mom?

A gift that comes with your time works at any age: two copies of one novel to read together, a cooking class for two, or tickets to a show you both like.

How much should I spend on Mom for Christmas?

There's no right number. In the NRF's 2025 survey, adults planned to spend $627.93 on gifts for everyone on their list combined. Pick a number that fits your budget, then filter the ideas by band.

Can siblings go in on one gift together?

Yes. Star a few ideas, tap "Share my shortlist" and send the link. Everyone sees the same picks marked on this page, so you can agree on one bigger gift and split it.

Is my shortlist saved?

It stays in this browser on this device, and nothing is sent to us. A shared link carries only the idea codes after the # sign, and browsers don't send that part to a website.

Can Mom talk to Santa herself?

Yes. Grown-ups can call Santa for themselves on a live video call in the browser, with no app. Read how calling Santa works first.
